The Lenoir County Board of Education approved multiple routine items during the May 5 meeting, including fees and charges for the 2025–26 school year, three field‑trip requests and surplus disposition procedures for maintenance materials.
Missus Harry presented the fees, fines and charges for elementary, middle and high school for 2025–26 and said there are no changes from recent years; principals reviewed the schedules and staff requested approval. The board moved and approved the fees and charges as presented.
The board also approved three field trips: an FCCLA trip for five students to the National Leadership Conference in Orlando (July 3–10) with two faculty chaperones; a Close‑Up program trip for 21 migrant program students to Washington, D.C. (June 22–27) with two staff chaperones; and a one‑day Kings Dominion trip for Northeast Elementary students as a reward for assessment performance. A board member noted chaperone ratios and staff addressed the near‑compliance with the typical 1:10 adult‑to‑student ratio for the migrant trip.
District maintenance staff presented a list of materials to be declared surplus and noted proceeds from any sale shall return to the originating department. The board approved the surplus disposition process.
The board then moved into closed session under North Carolina General Statute 143‑318.11 to consider confidential personnel matters; after returning to open session it approved the personnel recommendations and addendum.
