Board reviews April financials, approves budget amendment and adopts 2025–26 planning budget

The Lenoir County Board of Education reviewed April financial results and approved changes to the district’s recorded budget before voting to adopt the 2025–26 planning budget on May 5.

A finance presenter reviewed the April 2025 financial report, which summarized year‑to‑date budget activity across LCPS funds as of April 30. Board members noted that school food‑service revenue stood at about 60% of expected receipts while the district was roughly 83% through the school year; the presenter said the district still projects receiving the full budgeted revenue by year end. Federal fund supporting‑services spending was about 92% of its line item but officials said federal funds cannot be overspent and that internal amendments can be made if necessary.

The amendment was brought forward for approval and, following a second, the board voted to approve it.

Board members also discussed the 2025–26 planning budget. The presentation emphasized that the proposed plan is balanced on estimated revenues and prioritizes instruction and school safety, including building systems, HVAC and structural maintenance. The superintendent’s team said the plan had been presented to the Lenoir County Board of Commissioners and noted the district aims to avoid nonrecurring positions without recurring funding. The board moved to approve the 2025–26 planning budget and adopted it.
