Commissioners recognize AA Champion and Marilyn E. Burns elementary schools as Healthy South Texas campuses

Commissioner Joey Lopez read the proclamations noting that both schools completed youth programs branded "Learn, Grow, Eat, and Go" and the Walk Across Texas program. The proclamations included program participation details provided by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and Healthy South Texas: Champion Elementary reported 25 children (grades 2–5) completing the youth program and a combined student walking total reported in the packet; Marilyn E. Burns reported 19 children completing the youth program and fourth- and fifth-grade students walking a combined 4,958.54 miles. Adult program participation included Diabetes cooking classes and Walk Across Texas adults with small team participation numbers reported in the packet.
County commissioners congratulated students, staff and the school communities and presented certificates from Texas A&M AgriLife Extension. County staff noted these are the first two schools in Cameron County to receive the Healthy South Texas recognition.
