Board briefed on paving, utility easements and county lift-station agreement for West End

The board received multiple operations and facilities updates at Monday's work session, including a recommendation to award a paving contract, approvals for utility easements and a proposed agreement with the county for a lift station at West End Elementary.
Assistant Superintendent for Operations Christina Purvis reported that the Pinecrest High School gravel bus drive has performed well through heavy rains and that the district solicited informal bids to pave the drive. She reported four bids and said the lowest responsive bidder was Raleigh Paving at $51,084, and staff recommended awarding the contract and funding the work from capital funds.
Purvis also described a Duke Energy request for a perpetual, non-exclusive easement at Sandhills Farm Life to remove old poles, install new poles closer to the highway, and upgrade lines; staff said Duke Energy would reconstruct and maintain poles and equipment and the easement would be granted for a $1 consideration.
Separately, Purvis presented a county agreement to deed a 5,904-square-foot parcel to Moore County for installation of a lift station at West End Elementary. The county will install and maintain the lift station, waive a $60,000 hookup fee and will maintain the site and a permanent utility easement; once county sewer is available, the school's outdated septic system will be abandoned.
What happens next: staff recommended the Pinecrest paving contract be awarded to Raleigh Paving and placed the utility easements and county lift-station agreement on the consent agenda for board approval.
