Sauerkraut Days organizers preview Aug. 15-16 festival, seek volunteers for community cabbage-making

Event highlights presented by organizer Nicole Bone and volunteer John (sauerkraut lead) - Dates and schedule: The main festival days are Friday, Aug. 15, and Saturday, Aug. 16, with a community 'Find the Can' event Aug. 11-16. - Friday events: a 5 p.m. parade, park activities, craft tables, a miniature golf course installation, live music and a movie-in-the-park showing (Sandlot) later that night. - Saturday events: breakfast trucks, a fun run, pickleball and skate-park events, vendors on the west side of the park, kid-friendly activities, bingo, a historic tour and a drone show sponsored by Nextmeters. - Sauerkraut production: John described an open-house community cabbage-making event where volunteers work in shifts; last year the group produced about 900 jars in the festival and in follow-up sales. He said the team is planning multiple big batches leading up to the festival and suggested youth-council shifts of two hours so young volunteers can participate safely.
Volunteer and logistics requests Organizers asked council members and staff to help with logistics, chaperoning and marketing. They plan to recruit volunteers via social media and sign-up forms. John said the production process benefits from larger volunteer participation and that Bridgerland will serve as the main fermentation/production ground for big batches.
Community participation Organizers invited residents to audition for a new "Prov's Got Talent" stage on Friday night and encouraged neighborhood participation in the parade, vendor area and volunteer shifts for sauerkraut production.
