Narragansett teacher Sarah Deli named Rhode Island Teacher of the Year; town council honors her

The Narragansett Town Council spotlighted Narragansett High School teacher Sarah Deli after she was named Rhode Island Teacher of the Year. The council presented a certificate recognizing her designation and praised her classroom and schoolwide initiatives.
Dr. Peter Cummings introduced Deli to the council, noting she teaches English and special education and is in her fifth year at Narragansett High School. Deli told the council the selection process was rigorous and described bringing “little moments of joy” to students as part of her teaching approach. She said she hopes the recognition will become a starting point for broader opportunities while stressing her commitment to students.
Council members and attendees congratulated Deli. One councilor reminded the audience that prior local Teacher of the Year winners have gone on to state and national recognition and urged Deli not to leave teaching.
The council presented a certificate that reads, in part, “for your exceptional teaching performance earning the designation of 2026 Teacher of the Year in appreciation for your loyalty and dedication to the youth of Narragansett.”
