Town adopts Region 8 Hazard Mitigation Plan 2025–2030

The Jackson Town Council unanimously adopted the 2025–2030 Region 8 Hazard Mitigation Plan on June 2, a regularly updated document that inventories natural hazards and sets mitigation priorities for town and county agencies.
Rich Oakes, Emergency Management Coordinator for Teton County and the Town of Jackson, presented the plan and described it as a combined hazard‑identification and mitigation strategy document the public should consult: "If you're a member of the general public, if you're gonna look at any of our emergency plans, this is the 1 to look at," he said.
Oakes said the plan is typically updated every five years and includes a hazard identification and risk assessment that catalogs threats such as floods, wildfire and seismic activity, plus a set of mitigation actions that local governments can adopt and implement. He asked the council to adopt the plan as an official planning document for the town.
Council members expressed support for the plan and thanked staff for compiling hazard and mitigation information. The motion to adopt Resolution 25‑11 passed unanimously.
Adoption allows the town and county to remain compliant with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) program expectations and positions the jurisdictions for hazard‑mitigation grants and implementation activities identified in the plan. Oakes and town staff will continue implementation and outreach work identified in the mitigation‑action chapters.
