The San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to adopt recommendations from the county Traffic Advisory Committee after staff presentation and public comment.
County staff and multiple callers discussed a range of TAC items, including speed‑limit certifications, the installation of traffic signals and signs, and a proposed 50 mph designation for part of Alpine Road. Several public commenters urged slower limits or additional safety measures on winding roads near residences. "On item 2b, the Alpine Road, 50 mile an hour speed limit. This is a somewhat winding road near numerous houses and in the interest of safety, I would think that a 35 or 40 maybe speed limit would be more advisable and a lot safer," one caller said.
Other speakers pressed the committee to prioritize evacuation routes and practical traffic calming solutions. One commenter recommended speed cushions instead of roundabouts and asked TAC to spend time on evacuation planning. Another noted the value of listing request origins in TAC materials and expressed support for the committee’s transparency.
Supervisors moved and seconded approval of the TAC recommendations. The board voted by roll call; the motion passed unanimously with all supervisors present voting aye.
Staff noted the committee certified existing and adjacent speed limits in some locations to reduce redundant signage. Board members emphasized balancing multimodal improvements, safety and evacuation planning in future TAC reviews.
The vote implements the TAC’s recommendations as presented; specific implementation steps—sign installation, speed limit changes and design work—will be carried out by county traffic staff under existing departmental authority.
