Audit committee prioritizes two performance audits and adjourns after referring four reviews
Summary
The Legislative Audit Committee voted to prioritize audits of public education reading programs and the Division of Facilities Construction and Management; earlier in the meeting it referred four completed audits to interim and appropriations committees and then adjourned.
At the close of its 2025-09-25 meeting the Legislative Audit Committee approved prioritization of two new audits and finalized referrals for audits presented during the session.
Prioritization motion
The committee voted unanimously to authorize the auditor general to prioritize and begin the following audits as staff expertise and resources become available:
- A performance audit of the effectiveness of public education reading programs. - A performance audit of the Division of Facilities Construction and Management.
Earlier referrals and adjournment
During the meeting the committee also referred four audits to appropriate interim or appropriations committees (Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services; local authorities property tax; funding of Utah’s behavioral health system; review of school library books). After approving the prioritization motion, the committee chair moved to adjourn and the meeting was adjourned by voice vote.
What’s next
The Auditor General’s Office will schedule staff and resources and notify the committee of estimated start dates for the newly prioritized audits.
