Wallingford policy committee reviews updates to curriculum, special education, leave and military-student rules

The Wallingford School District policy committee met Oct. 14 and reviewed proposed revisions to several district policies to align with recent Connecticut legislation. Committee members discussed updates to the district curriculum policy (Policy 6140), special education policy (Policy 6171), the family and medical leave policy (Policy 4152.6), an individualized education program policy (Policy 6159) and a new student policy on educational opportunities for children of military families (Policy 5118.2). The committee postponed consideration of three new policies (items 5.2–5.4) until a later meeting when more committee members can participate.

The policy changes are intended to bring Wallingford into compliance with state law. Committee members noted that Public Act 24-174 requires boards of education to make curriculum materials and scope-and-sequence information available online beginning July 1, 2026; Public Act 25-67 adds certain reporting and annual-report obligations related to special education; and Public Act 25-25 covers enrollment protections for children of active-duty service members. The committee set a schedule to carry several of the revised policies forward to the district instructional committee meeting for a second read and possible adoption.
