District staff described a proposed memorandum of understanding at the Oct. 14 work session that would change the structure of teacher workdays and professional development (PD) at the start of the school year and across quarters.
Staff said the MOU would not change community services but would adjust in-service scheduling: the first three days of the school year would include full teacher work days in classrooms; the second day would include conference-style professional development; a first-quarter full PD day would focus on reviewing student data and instructional adjustments; the second quarter would include a partial PD day and teacher record day to accommodate end-of-semester work; the third quarter would provide a full PD "transitions" day to coordinate grade-to-grade and school-to-school student transitions; and the final work day would be a full teacher work day at the end of the fourth quarter.
Staff characterized the revision as aligning schedules with classroom and transition needs and said board members had no substantive questions at the work session. The MOU item was informational at the work session and will return for formal consideration if needed.
