The Tulsa City Council confirmed Mayor Nichols’ appointment of Tarnell Bent to the Tulsa Women’s Commission on Tuesday; the appointment carries a term through May 31, 2028.
During the meeting, John Hopkins spoke in support of the appointment. After the vote, Bent addressed the council, thanking Dr. Laura Latta and Mayor Nichols for the nomination and pledging to carry the role “with gratitude, vision and intention.”
Bent said she comes “from a line of strong giving, service oriented women” and that she will work to continue their legacies and serve women who are “unseen, unheard, and discounted.” “Service is one of the greatest expressions of love for humanity, and I look forward to doing this work accordingly,” Bent told the council.
Councilors moved to approve item 2 a and recorded a roll call vote of yes from Councilors Archie, Dutton, Bellis, Gilbert, Doctor Wright, Lakin and Hal Harper. The council welcomed Bent and invited her to speak at the dais following the confirmation.
The appointment places Bent on the city’s Tulsa Women’s Commission, which advises the mayor and council on issues affecting women in the city.
