Golf Manor Village council adopts resolution accepting county-determined tax rates

The council held a special meeting after receiving the county's paper copy of the budget commission's amounts and rates later than expected. The village administrator told the council the late delivery meant the village would have missed the filing deadline by four days if it had waited for the next regular meeting. "This is what I do every single year. It's really, really standard procedural, but if we don't, it's kind of a disaster," the village administrator said.
The administrator summarized the item as a routine annual acceptance of the county's estimates and said the county's figures are typically close to final amounts. When asked what would happen if the council did not approve the resolution, the administrator replied, "Then they cannot write any tax dollars whatsoever." The administrator also noted that school taxes would still be collected.
Council members moved and seconded the measure and then voted. Council members recorded by name voting in favor were Miss Chesser, Mr. Fisher, Miss Mayo and Miss Michaelson. Two members, Dr. Fisher and Miss Kreimer, were absent and had notified the council. The resolution passed.
Council members said there was no substantive change from the figures the village received in July and described the vote as a routine, deadline-driven step rather than a policy decision.
After the vote the council adjourned the special session.
