City Manager Scott delivered an update to the Shelbyville City Council on Oct. 9 covering infrastructure projects, coordination with state agencies, and a city-sponsored holiday event.
Scott said flood pumps are being stored off-site at the Shelbyville Wastewater Treatment Plant and that structural design coordination meetings continue; staff are targeting an advertisement for bids around Nov. 1 or Dec. 1, with construction currently expected to start in 2025 or 2026 depending on schedule. He said coordination meetings are scheduled Oct. 13.
On the Dairy Street sidewalk project, Scott reported the work is about 85% complete; crews have completed drainage improvements to address problem areas. He also said an overhead utility was removed from South Spring Street as part of preparations to make that corridor more compatible with the square and downtown area.
Scott said the city is awaiting comments from TDOT on a locally coordinated project in the 10-5 program and expected those comments back the week following the meeting. He said staff are coordinating retail recruitment and other economic development activities tied to recently approved contracts.
Scott announced the Coastal County Christmas event will be Friday, Dec. 5, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and said the city budgeted a $10,000 sponsorship for the event; staff told council the sponsorship was in the current budget and is typically administered through the Chamber of Commerce and hotel-motel/tourism funds.
Council asked whether the $10,000 would appear as a separate agenda item; staff said it is budgeted and likely will be presented on a future agenda if final authorization is needed.
Provenance: city manager report at the start of the business portion of the Oct. 9 meeting.
