The Alice City Council voted to ratify a joint request with Jim Wells County for a $100,000 Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) ramp grant for routine airport maintenance and low-cost airport improvements.
Staff explained the grant program provides $100,000 for ramp and air-side maintenance and requires a 10% local match. The specific split discussed in the meeting shows the city covering approximately $11,111.11 of the nonfederal match, with the county paying half of that share; council noted the unusual cent figure is the math result of making the TxDOT payment round to $100,000.
"This is a yearly ramp grant," staff said, "it allows us to do routine airport maintenance, like some paving and some lighting and things that need to get done and some things at the terminal building." Council asked clarifying questions about aprons and about the county's share; staff confirmed the county has already approved the request and will share the match.
A motion to ratify the application, commit the city's half of the match and authorize the city manager and city attorney to sign grant documents passed on a voice vote with no recorded opposition.
