Staff member Anita and payroll analyst Kiwanah Bill presented the district’s human-resources strategy, describing staffing vacancies, credentialing status, retention rates and planned recruitment activities.
Nut graf: The board was given a multi-part update: three vacant positions were being covered with substitutes while the district recruits; teacher-credential categories and monitoring changes were explained; the district reported high retention rates and a small across-the-board salary-schedule increase; and the board conducted a required public hearing on recruitment and retention efforts.
Anita said the district began the year with three open full-time-equivalent positions (including one newly created vacancy at ECA and a seventh-grade humanities transition) being covered by substitutes and that the campus-support-aide vacancy was reposted when an offer fell through. On credentialing, Anita reported staffing in categories including provisional permits, interns, induction participants and resident teachers; at the opening snapshot the district had three provisional permits, three interns, about 15 staff in an induction program and two resident teachers.
Anita told the board the district increased the salary schedule by 1% for all staff and raised employer monthly contributions for health and welfare benefits. She also reported retention figures: all-staff retention of 97.9% (an increase of 7.9 percentage points) and teacher retention at about 99.95% (an increase of 9.95 percentage points) for the prior year payroll snapshot.
The board opened and closed the public hearing on vacancies, recruitment and retention at 7:59–8:00 p.m.; no public comments were recorded online. Anita said the district will continue job-fair attendance, a compensation study and recruitment tracking to refine where hires come from.
Ending: Anita said staff will return with committee recommendations if the benefits committee proposes changes to medical insurance and will continue tracking vacancy and credentialing data.
