Council approves airport hangar premises license and hangar development agreement

The Grand Haven City Council voted June 16 to approve a premises license and hangar development agreement for the Grand Haven Airport, following a recommendation from the Airport Board.
Ben Anaga, chair of the Airport Board, said the agreement establishes minimum hangar size requirements and a process for leasing airport property to private individuals to build hangars. The agreement contemplates a 30-year structure composed of three 10-year terms; after 30 years the hangar building becomes city property, and the city may then lease the hangar space.
Anaga said the contract language had been reviewed by the city attorney and represents the final draft recommended by the Airport Board. Councilmembers thanked board members for their work; the council approved the resolution by voice and roll call (McLaughlin: yes; Fritz: yes; Lowe: yes; Mayor Vanessa: yes).
Under the agreement the city will establish minimum dimensions and lease terms; airport staff and the Airport Board will oversee implementation. Anaga said the board’s work was intended to increase available hangar capacity at the airport and encourage private investment in larger hangars.
