Board asks staff to share literacy curriculum resources tied to 'science of reading'

Board member Ms. Ashley asked whether the district maintains a literacy list or posts the programs it uses to implement the "science of reading" so parents can review them. Staff responded that the district posts course and curriculum information on its academics page and that staff would provide a consolidated list of interventions, textbooks, resources and software used to support literacy.
Dr. Johnson (as recorded) told the board: "On our current website, I know we post, our various, courses that we offer and a bit about our curriculum. Specifically, as far as our literacy curriculum, I'm not sure if that's actually posted. I think that it is posted on our academics page, but we can make sure we get that information directly to you. We have several resources that we use in order to support literacy."
Staff said the district has narrowed the number of programs in use to those that are scientifically based and that show a return on investment when used with the proper dosage and instructional quality. The board requested that staff send a list of intervention programs, on-grade-level curricula, textbooks, resources and software to board members.
No changes to district curriculum were made at the meeting; the item was a request for information and documentation.
