Resident says hit-and-run incidents are rising and asks council to press for stronger response

Raquel Calderon told the Hartford City Council during public comment that hit-and-run crashes are occurring "every single day" and that she is assisting multiple victims.
"There's just too many of them every single day," Calderon said. She said she currently handles five separate cases and that some callers told her they felt police were not taking action.
Calderon said she would return at a later meeting to provide more details because relatively few members of the public were present at the session. "But I'd like to see what... the board of directors can do about this," she said, using the meeting microphone to ask elected officials what steps they can take.
Council members did not record a response to Calderon's request for more detail during the public-comment period. Calderon said she had received calls from news outlets and urged that public employees who "represent" residents should address the cases and reputational concerns if allegations of inaction are true.
No formal requests, directives or investigations were recorded on the council record at the time of her comment. Calderon said she planned to return to elaborate on the cases and to seek further action.
