Speedway council signs participation form for Purdue opioid settlement; award amount not yet specified

The Town of Speedway Town Council on Aug. 25 approved a participation and release form so the town can receive funds from a Purdue/Sackler opioid settlement.
Philip Faust, town clerk treasurer, and Town Attorney Ted Nolting briefed the council, saying state statute and the Indiana Attorney General’s office had previously set mechanisms for political subdivisions to receive opioid-settlement funds. Faust said Speedway was generally considered opted into the settlement under statute but that the Sackler settlement agreement added a requirement that each political subdivision sign an agreement to receive funds.
Nolting said the attorney general recommended Speedway sign the form. Faust said allocation spreadsheets for this particular settlement were not yet posted on the attorney general’s website. During discussion, Faust and Nolting noted the town expects to receive a share once the statewide allocations are finalized but they could not confirm a dollar amount at the meeting.
Councilor Jason DeWyle moved to approve the participation and release form; the motion was seconded and passed 4-0. No amendments or conditions were attached. Faust and Nolting said Speedway has received opioid-settlement payments in past distributions and the current action is to ensure Speedway receives any allocation tied to the Purdue/Sackler agreement.
The item was recorded under agenda item 6 and the council approved the form by unanimous vote.
