Pipestone County commissioners approve routine business, decline regional Safe Streets program and award fuel bid

Pipestone County commissioners on June 24 approved a package of routine items and several discrete motions, including a decision not to participate in a regional Safe Streets for All program and an award of the county fuel contract.
The board approved the consent agenda, which included minutes from the June 10 meeting and several warrants, including hospital warrants totaling $999,893.26. The board also approved a Safe Routes to School agreement with the City of Pipestone (SAP 0059591006) to allow that city project to proceed.
Separately, the board voted not to participate in the South Regional Development Commission’s (SRDC) Safe Streets for All program. Commissioners discussed the program’s proposed cost share — about $1,000 per intersection or segment plus an $80.20 match and an estimated $3,000–$4,000 contribution for engineering — and said much of the work overlaps with county road-and-bridge priorities. A motion to decline participation carried.
The board approved a letter of support for a proposed UCAP (Upper County Area Partnership) bus storage and maintenance facility near Southwest Health and Human Services to support a future Federal Transit Administration grant application. Commissioners noted the county would not assume liability by submitting a support letter.
On county operations and records, the board approved a proposal to continue digitizing and publishing commissioners’ minutes (Arcasearch) using recorder’s office funding, and it approved an update to the county fee schedule to raise the well disclosure filing fee from $46.50 to $54 effective July 1, 2025 in response to a legislative fee change.
The board accepted the restricted and assigned fund balance summary and approved a property tax abatement to correct acreage and valuation on parcel 050360500 (applicants Jared and Jill Arp), producing a net abatement of $3,476 for that parcel’s tax year accounting.
At the 10:00 a.m. fuel-bid opening, the county received three bids for gasoline and diesel. The board awarded the countywide fuel contract to Dierks Oil (sometimes transcribed as Dirks), and directed staff to notify the bidder.
