Saint Paul Council proclaims July 2025 Disability Pride Month, honors advisory committee

The Saint Paul City Council on July 16 adopted a resolution recognizing July 2025 as Disability Pride Month and honoring the members of the mayor's advisory committee for people with disabilities.
Councilmember Bui presented the resolution and read its text recognizing the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and thanking committee members for their service. "It is my distinct honor to, be presenting this resolution along with so many of my colleagues, to recognize disability pride month, honor disability advocacy in the city of Saint Paul," Bui said as committee members came forward to receive certificates.
The resolution text noted that "nearly 1 in 4 Americans currently live with a disability," thanked the committee for their advocacy, and stated that "the ADA is only a starting point, and there remains significant room for progress toward full and equitable access and inclusion for all community members with disabilities." After the reading, several committee members briefly introduced themselves. Jillian Nelson, who identified herself as "an autistic and multiply disabled adult," said, "I really wanna thank the council for the commitment to accessibility as we as MACPD are determined to move forward and make sure Saint Paul is the most accessible and most inclusive city in our state and then in our country." Carrie Sheldon and Anna Hover also spoke briefly from the committee.
The council took a roll-call vote because a member was participating remotely; the resolution passed 7-0. Council commentary during the discussion thanked the committee and city staff. The presenter asked committee members to share their names, neighborhoods and service lengths, and certificates were photographed with the council before the formal vote.
The action recognizes the month formally; it does not create a regulatory requirement or appropriate funds. The council indicated it will continue work to advance accessibility and inclusion but did not attach additional directives or deadlines to this resolution.
