Speedway nears completion of new stadium; turnover, ribbon cutting planned before Aug. 29 game

At the Aug. 12 meeting the Town of Speedway Board of Trustees received an extended facilities update covering the new football stadium, junior-high floor replacement, Building C construction, and other maintenance projects.
Facilities staff said the stadium has reached the punch-list phase and that officials expect the turnover date to be near Aug. 19 pending final inspections. "We actually have our first round of final inspections tomorrow, to see if we can occupy it," the facilities presenter said. The presenter noted about 150 punch-list items remain, many small, but that the video board is operational and locker rooms and site work are largely complete.
The district announced a public ribbon-cutting and open house scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 27 at 6:00 p.m., and said the stadium should be operational enough to host a football game on Aug. 29. Facilities staff emphasized that some exterior work, parking and remaining punch-list items will continue after initial occupancy.
The district reported delays on the junior-high gym floor project caused by unexpected sub-surface conditions beneath the slab. Facilities staff said crews are increasing manpower and expect to begin installing the maple playing surface soon but that an August-completion target is optimistic.
Building C (a new construction project) was described as entering the precast panel erection phase, with crews expected to begin installing wall panels and place the building under roof in the coming weeks.
Other items reported: designs for Allison HVAC and Wheeler auditorium windows are in planning; ADA accessibility work and additional parking-lot striping will be scheduled; and the district replaced and standardized hygiene dispensers across buildings. The facilities team said the district has a healthy rainy-day balance to support capital needs.
Facilities staff invited the community to the ribbon-cutting and said PR materials will follow once occupancy is confirmed.
