District to roll out bus locator; HR reports steady summer hiring with remaining vacancies

Okaloosa County School District officials told the school board June 23 the district will roll out a bus stop locator tool for families on July 28 and provided an update on summer hiring and remaining vacancies.
Superintendent Chambers described the new transportation information system that will let families see bus stop locations and whether a student is designated as a walker; the tool is scheduled to go live July 28. Chamber said the district will continue to encourage families to complete routing surveys so the district can plan routes and capacity.
HR director Doctor Hale reported on staffing: at the time of the workshop the district had extended 177 offers of employment (accepted via transfer or new hire) and had 35 hires still being processed. Hale said there were 49 school'based instructional vacancies remaining, with the largest categories of need including secondary math and teachers of autism (six vacancies each). Paraprofessionals remain the largest noninstructional hiring need.
Board members asked about new buses and timing; facilities and transportation staff said buses ordered a year ago are arriving and additional orders were expected in coming months, but delivery is a multi'month process.
No formal board action was recorded; staff presented the information and members asked for follow'up on routing survey completion and hiring progress.
