Council proclaims Parks & Recreation Month; parks staff outline master-plan kickoff and usage statistics

Greenacres proclaimed July as Parks and Recreation Month and parks staff presented participation statistics and announced a parks master-plan process that will seek community input and aim to update park design and programming.
The City Council read a proclamation declaring July 2025 as Parks and Recreation Month and July 18 as Parks and Recreation Professionals Day, recognizing the role of parks and recreation services in community health and wellness.
Parks department staff used the opportunity to introduce the department team and preview the city’s long-awaited parks master plan, described as “about a 20-year-in-the-making” project. Staff urged public involvement during the master-plan process and said community input will be solicited on what residents want to see in future park improvements.
Staff provided usage and program statistics for 2024: the parks and recreation department served more than 86,740 patrons across athletics, fields, rentals, classes and events; executed over 1,900 facility rentals; ran 11 community events; partnered with about 84 nonprofits and local businesses; executed 240 special activities for older adult programs; and logged more than 1,500 community service volunteer hours.
Staff said the department’s mission is to promote community life through programs, athletic leagues, scholarships and events and stressed protecting the natural environment and providing inclusive spaces. The department also invited residents to upcoming events, including the July 4 “Ignite the Night” celebration and a July 16 community conversation on computer scams.
Councilmembers thanked staff and encouraged participation in the parks-master-plan outreach; staff announced that representatives will seek public comment during the planning process.
