Booster club withdraws request; Tavares council accepts dissolution of Tavares Babe Ruth Booster Club

The Tavares City Council on July 2 accepted a withdrawal after the Tavares Babe Ruth Booster Club informed the city it had dissolved and would not proceed with a proposal to take over administration of the city’s Babe Ruth program.
Staff said the item had been continued from the June 4 meeting to allow the Booster Club to present. City staff reported the Booster Club sent a proposal and then notified the city it had closed as of the day before the July 2 meeting. Several council members said they had wanted to hear a presentation describing how the club would improve the program, and several members praised the parks-and-recreation staff member who runs the city program and expressed concern that the Booster Club’s dissolution could mean loss of potential fundraising support.
A council member moved to accept the Booster Club’s withdrawal and to acknowledge the club’s dissolution; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote with no member recorded opposing.
