Local program volunteers thank council for support of STEM summer camp; program provides meals and computers to participants

During the citizens forum at the July 22 Cedar Hill City Council meeting, Clara McGinnis thanked the mayor and council for facilitating connections and support that enabled a STEM summer program for children.
McGinnis said the program received a grant through an entity she referenced as “ComEdat, the AT and T people,” and additional help from Frost Bank. She said the program operated at the Allen E. Sam’s Recreation Center, provided two hot meals per day prepared at that center, offered STEM instruction, games and field trips, and distributed a computer to each child after completion of the classes to support continued learning at home.
McGinnis said the program served multiple age groups and that a grant award covered one age group; additional local support enabled the program to expand coverage. She thanked Mayor Steve Mason and Council member Melissa (surname not provided in the public comment) for their assistance and thanked the council for the city’s partnership in delivering programming.
Her remarks were made during the public-comment portion of the meeting; council members responded with thanks and no formal action followed.
