Huber Heights cites finance award, plans new bus shelters and summer events

Huber Heights city staff announced at a July 22 City Council work session that the city received a Government Finance Officers Association certificate of achievement for its 2023 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and outlined several near-term projects and community events.
City staff said the award recognized the finance department's work on the 2023 ACFR. "We were awarded the GFOA certificate of achievement for our 2023, ACFR," a staff member said, adding that the finance team completed the report despite difficulties caused by a recent cyberattack. Councilmembers noted the milestone, and one asked staff to prepare a press release and a Dayton Daily News item recognizing Finance Director Jim Bell and his staff.
The council also heard that the city had been awarded an "age friendly grant award of $20,000" to fund two Regional Transit Authority bus shelters to be placed on Brandt Pike near Village Park Apartments. The staff member said the stop is "a heavily traveled stop" where residents had requested shelters; the grant will fund two shelters to be installed this year.
Other updates from the city manager report included a planned one-day lane reduction at Brandt Pike and Carriage Trails for road widening this week, two remaining story-time sessions at Shoalgate Park, the "Run Katy Run" event at the Eichelberger Amphitheater this Saturday, and a shredding event scheduled for Aug. 2.
The announcements drew brief comments from council. One member suggested adding the number of consecutive years the city has received clean audits to the press release; staff agreed. Council also acknowledged the city manager's one-year anniversary and congratulated finance staff for the award.
City staff said written materials for the bus-shelter installation and the GFOA award will be released to the public. No formal council votes were taken on these items during the work session.
