White Inn restoration project wins Restore New York reimbursement agreement, county to close out grant

The Audit & Control Committee approved execution of the disbursement agreement needed to close a Restore New York grant for the White Inn restoration project in Fredonia.
Nate Aldrich, county economic development coordinator, said the project has been underway for seven to eight years and that the county is the recipient of a competitive Restore New York award administered by Empire State Development (ESD). Aldrich said ESD operates the grant as a reimbursable award; the county submitted required documentation and expects to submit the final disbursement agreement the week following the committee meeting to close out the file.
Committee members and others praised the White Inn renovation as a community asset. Comments at the meeting noted the building had been in foreclosure and disrepair and that the restoration helps the village of Fredonia. One committee member noted concern about reliance on competitive state grants for such local projects and remarked on the broader challenge of maintaining local infrastructure when communities lack steady capital replacement funding.
The resolution to authorize the execution of the reimbursable Restore New York grant agreement was approved by voice vote.
