Milford City Council heard public comment July 15 on whether to change 300 North from a one‑way street back to two‑way traffic. Multiple speakers, including a resident who estimated one‑way signs are ignored “approximately 95% of the time,” urged restoration to two‑way travel for clarity and safety.
An emergency responder said two‑way traffic is useful for rapid access to that side of town but acknowledged other drivers can behave dangerously; the responder supported reverting to two‑way to reduce confusion. City Administrator Lisa told the council the original one‑way designation ran from 500 West to 300 West but that signage has been removed in parts of that stretch so motorists already use some blocks as two‑way.
Council members indicated general support for the change. Russell moved and Les seconded a motion to change 300 North to two‑way, but the council then withdrew the motion after the city attorney advised that a formal ordinance adoption is required to make the change official. The council directed administration to prepare the necessary ordinance and place it on the August agenda for adoption; signs will not be removed until the ordinance is adopted.
Mayor K. said the change appears to suit local traffic patterns where enforcement of the one‑way designation has been ineffective. City staff will draft the ordinance and return with the paperwork needed for final council action in August.
