Roanoke Cooperative representative says digital‑literacy classes, loaner devices are available in Gates County

Reba Greenholly, a Gates County resident speaking for Roanoke Cooperative, told the Board that a digital navigator, Angela Battle, is offering free digital‑literacy classes at Will‑o'‑the‑Wisp and that organizers will provide up to 20 loaner devices for public use once security software is installed.
“We have broadband, but if you don't know how to use it, it's like having water and not knowing how to turn on your faucet,” Greenholly said, urging commissioners to publicize the program. She said the county’s broadband reach under the Roanoke Cooperative network is about 97 percent and that the navigator’s current class schedule includes a telehealth course offered from 1 to 3 p.m. on the coming Wednesday.
Greenholly said the navigator’s instruction focuses on practical skills — including internet safety, using telehealth services and hands‑on practice — and is open to groups such as churches or senior centers. She said the program is funded through grants the cooperative secured and that participants can register through the Gates County Chamber of Commerce.
Commissioners and staff discussed sharing the information on county social media and the county website. The board did not take formal action on the program during the meeting.
