Wichita disability advocate urges county–city collaboration on sidewalks, supports Amtrak connection

At the July 16 meeting of the Sedgwick County Board of County Commissioners, Andrew Crane of Guiding Paws ICT urged the county to collaborate with the City of Wichita to upgrade downtown sidewalks and improve access for people with disabilities.
Crane, who identified himself as a member of the county’s Access Advisory Board, said the city council had heard the same letter and that both jurisdictions should work together to make downtown sidewalks more accessible. “I’m willing to work with you guys on that,” he told commissioners.
Crane also called for support for passenger rail, saying that bringing Amtrak service to Wichita would improve regional mobility. Chairman Beatty thanked Crane for his service on the Access Advisory Board and described him as “a friend of the commission and city council.”
The remarks were delivered during the public‑comment portion of the agenda and did not prompt formal action during the July 16 meeting.
