Sedgwick County proclaims July 2025 as Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week

The Sedgwick County Board of County Commissioners on July 16 adopted a proclamation designating July 2025 as Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week to recognize community corrections professionals who supervise adult and juvenile offenders and provide referrals and resources for clients.

Chairman Ryan Beatty read the proclamation and moved its approval; the clerk recorded a unanimous vote in favor. Mario Salinas, deputy director for the Department of Corrections, accepted the proclamation and introduced intensive‑supervision staff who said they work across juvenile and adult programs, including pretrial services, drug court and veterans treatment court.

Staff members described program work and experience. “We have a juvenile success rate of about 75 percent, and of those 75 percent, 93 percent do not commit future crimes,” Salinas told commissioners, citing juvenile‑program outcomes and the ripple effects for families and the community.

Commissioners thanked staff and emphasized the restorative role of community corrections. Commissioner Howe said much of the department’s work happens “behind the scenes” and praised the staff’s experience and service. Salinas outlined program components including detention, emergency shelter, pretrial programming, drug court, veterans treatment court and an evening reporting center that offers after‑hours programming.

The vote to approve the proclamation was recorded as unanimous; the proclamation was ceremonial and not tied to a budget appropriation at the July 16 meeting.
