Marin County reports nearly 80,000 fairgoers; accessibility and sustainability emphasized

Marin County Cultural Services staff told the Board of Supervisors on July 15 that the 2025 Marin County Fair drew just under 80,000 visitors over five days, up roughly 10,000 from the prior year.
Director Steve Dowd and Deputy Director Libby Garrison reviewed the fair's community engagement metrics and accessibility offerings. They said the fair welcomed about 2,700 seniors and 4,600 children (12 and under) with free admission on one day; 108 volunteers provided roughly 1,342 volunteer hours; about 800 community performers represented 45 local organizations; and more than 3,000 entries were received across competitive categories. Staff reported that roughly 900 people used dedicated accessibility services during the event.
Why it matters: the numbers underscore the fair's role as a major county public event and illustrate county investments in accessibility and sustainability. Dowd credited partners including the Sonoma Marin Agricultural Association and local transportation providers; Marin Transit provided free rides and Smart extended train service for evening events.
Staff invited attendees to complete a short survey (QR code on the fair materials) to help plan future fairs; the survey deadline announced at the meeting was July 18. Supervisors commended fair staff for volunteer coordination and community programming.
County staff said they are still reconciling the fair's finances and will provide updated revenue and expense figures later. The board did not take further action on the report.
