Sean told the committee the purchase covers 119 laptops for the police department, five rugged tablets for motorcycles, and 47 tablets for the fire department — 171 devices total, not including docks and keyboards. He provided rough price comparisons: typical commercial laptops run about $1,600, rugged laptops about $2,200, and tablets near $600.
A motion to recommend council approval of the purchase and to authorize the city manager to execute necessary documents was seconded and passed 6-0.
