The Finance, Administration & Economic Development Committee recommended that the City Council approve salary increases for the municipal court presiding judge and municipal court judge, effective Sept. 1, 2025, by a vote of 6-0.
Trevor, the staff presenter, said the raise would follow an existing resolution tying any judicial increase to the average merit and market adjustments for full-time city employees. “For 2025, the average salary increase for full time city employees, was 4.55%,” Trevor said, adding that figure combined a 2.4% market increase and an average 2.15% merit increase.
The resolution cited by staff requires any judge increase to be “commensurate with the average merit percentage increase received by full time city employees” while excluding police and fire employees subject to step plans, Trevor explained. The committee noted the resolution also allows consideration of broader economic issues affecting the city’s budget.
Committee members asked no follow-up questions. A motion to recommend the council approve the increases was seconded and approved unanimously, 6-0.
The committee did not provide detailed dollar amounts for individual judges in the public discussion; the packet referenced by staff contains tables showing the current and proposed compensation.
