At its July 15 meeting, the Southgate Community School District Board of Education received a first reading of the Davidson Middle Academy handbook and was given time to review the document before it returns for final approval on Aug. 12.
Staff presenting the handbook said the document pulls in the district student code of conduct and outlines International Baccalaureate (IB) courses and grading practices used by the New York Program (NYP) style programs. The staff presentation said the handbook combines elements from other IB program handbooks and best practices in the IB continuum; because of the handbook’s length and detail, staff recommended the full board review it and convene a policy subcommittee only if members want a deeper line-by-line review.
The presenter noted Miss Garcia was in the meeting and available to answer detailed questions after board members complete their review. Board members were offered a four-week review period and directed that final approval will be scheduled for the Aug. 12 board meeting if no separate policy meeting is arranged.
No formal action was taken; the handbook was presented as a first read. The board may ask staff to bring portions back to the policy committee if members request more detailed review.
Provenance: Transcript discussion begins at ~99.02s and continues through ~239.74s where board schedules a further review and sets an August 12 final approval date.
