South Euclid-Lyndhurst board adopts resolution supporting DeWine’s line-item vetoes to House Bill 96; staff warns of possible legislative overrides

During a brief legislative update at the work session, a board member summarized the governor’s vetoes and said the Ohio House and Senate planned votes on July 21 and July 22 to attempt to override three vetoes. The speaker said each chamber would need three-fifths support to override the vetoes.
The speaker identified three numbered items tied to the veto discussion: Item 55, described as authorizing each budget commission to reduce property tax rates; Item 65, described as affecting emergency levies, substitute levies, incremental growth levies and how combined income tax and property tax levies are treated in a 20-mill floor calculation; and Item 66, described as eliminating replacement levies and addressing various levy and loan fixes. The speaker warned that if both chambers overrode the vetoes, the changes would take effect 90 days after the sentence (as described in the update).
