Summer programs draw big crowds; pool rescue highlights interagency response

Pleasant Grove recreation and library staff reported high participation in summer programs during the July 15 work session and praised staff and emergency responders after a recent pool rescue.
Megan, speaking for recreation, said the foam party and other summer events drew large crowds; she estimated turnout for the foam party at between 500 and 700 people. The city also announced an upcoming Summerbration event on Aug. 7 and a summer reading art gala at the library on July 29 at 6 p.m.
Library staff described popular new programs for younger adults, monthly trivia and bingo nights, a growing Dungeons & Dragons group, and teen events. A planned teen movie night at the pool experienced technical difficulties, the presenters said, but staff improvised and the event continued.
Megan and other staff thanked the fire department and pool staff after a recent incident in which a 3‑year‑old was rescued at the pool. The child was treated and released the following morning; staff said the child returned to the pool wearing a life jacket. Staff credited quick action by pool personnel and the fire department for the positive outcome.
Recreation staff said they are expanding class offerings, including a fencing class led by a six‑time world champion, and continuing monthly community programming. No policy items or votes related to programming were on the work session agenda.
