Dickinson reports mixed sales-tax and oil-tax receipts; general fund revenues at 60% of budget

City finance staff reported the June statement of fund activity and sales- and hospitality-tax results at the July 15 Dickinson City Commission meeting.
Deputy Finance Presenter Carlson (presented by staff) said the city's unassigned cash (fund balance) for June was $11,278,438. The 1% sales tax for June 2025 totaled $535,617, down $32,581 from June 2024, while the 0.5% sales tax totaled $267,808, down $16,291 from 2024. The accounting of seven years' six-month totals shows 2025 running higher than 2024 in the six-month cumulative comparison by about 4.8% on combined sales tax.
Hospitality tax for June was $104,383, $8,598 higher than 2024; occupancy taxes were $33,032 for June, up $7,861 from 2024, and occupancy's six-month cumulative total was about 8.5% higher than 2024. The oil-impact tax for June came in $260,485 less than 2024; the six-month total was down $817,352 from 2024 (a 9.45% decline) but was about 4.09% above 2023.
For the general fund the city had collected 60% of budgeted revenues and expended 46% of budgeted expenditures (benchmark 50%). Utility revenues were 52% collected with expenditures at 36%. Finance staff offered to take questions and the commission approved the monthly financial report without further discussion.
All figures were presented on the record; commissioners approved the monthly financial report by voice vote.
