Greene County commissioners approve multimodal grant application, community grants and multiple veteran and administrative allocations

The Greene County Board of Commissioners on June 19, 2025 approved a package of grant applications, community grants, small veteran aid allocations and routine administrative measures, including a $1,872,675 multimodal transportation grant application for road improvements and multiple community grant awards.

The board voted to authorize submission of an application to the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Multimodal Transportation Fund seeking $1,872,675 for improvements to Progress Drive. The motion passed by unanimous voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded in the public audio.

The commissioners also approved a resolution authorizing submission of a PA Strategic Investments and Enhanced Sites grant application to the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and designated the chairman and the chief clerk as signatories on documents and agreements.

Under the county’s community grant program the board approved awards to local organizations: $2,500 to the Waynesburg Alliance Club for a community event; $1,500 to the Isaac Walton League for a “bridal stocking” (as described in the agenda); $4,000 to the Carmichaels Area Historical Society for repairs to an old mill house; and an award listed in the agenda for the Greene County Historical Society to support museum upgrades and expanded services. The board approved two small veteran aid allocations: $100 for a headstone for one army veteran and $75 for burial services for one Korean War veteran.

Administratively, commissioners approved a fiscal-year 2025–26 lease agreement with Connect Inc. to lease one apartment in transitional housing for emergency shelter at $740 per month; accepted revised income and expenditure reports for early intervention and the Human Services Block Grant for FY 2023–24 (revisions 1 and 2); and appointed Alan Frye to the tourism board with a term ending Dec. 31, 2025.

All items on the commissioners’ agenda were moved and seconded and carried by voice vote with no recorded dissent. The chairman called nine notices to the board’s attention for review and then moved to public comment, where no substantive items were raised for county action.

The board opened the meeting with ceremonial items — invocation, pledge and recognition of Tom Bauza of Waynesburg VFW Post 4793 — and approved minutes from the June 5, 2025 meeting before taking the actions above.
