Prince Edward County School Board recognizes PE Kids for same-day support to students

The Prince Edward County School Board recognized PE Kids, a community volunteer group that provides immediate material support to students, praising the group's same-day fulfillment of requests and local volunteer leadership.

During the recognition, Tiffany G., vice president of PE Kids, introduced Debbie Sayer as the group's current president and described the group's work in all three county schools. Patricia Little, who taught in the county for 23 years, and Barb Bariady, who worked 30 years as an elementary-school counselor and helped start the group in 2019, also spoke about the program's growth and mission. Bariady said the project began after George Bagby read an article about a similar program and sought to replicate it in Prince Edward County.

Board members said the program completed requests for 94 children last year and raised more than $3,500, nearly double the number of students served the previous school year; the transcript states that most requests are fulfilled and delivered to the school on the same day. Tania Terry, who identified herself as an assistant director for the local Lehi Start program, and Shana Miller, who said she works for Benchmark Community Bank, also introduced themselves as new volunteers.

"It was George Bagby's dream that no child ever ever went without. And y'all are making that happen," a board member said during remarks acknowledging the volunteers. The board thanked PE Kids and invited retired educators and community members to participate.
