The Bourbon County Board of County Commissioners voted to move the R&R (revenue and rate) hearing from Aug. 18 to Aug. 25. Commissioners said the change gives the budget committee time to prepare and allows the board to hold the R&R hearing in proximity to the budget hearing if desired.
A motion was made to shift the date and carried on a voice/roll call vote after commissioners discussed submission deadlines and the timing of the county budget hearing. Commissioners noted a Sept. 20 submission deadline for related filings and that moving the hearing to Aug. 25 would leave multiple weeks for the budget committee to present and for the board to accept public comment. One commissioner noted the budget hearing’s statutory date window and said holding the R&R hearing earlier would preserve time for adjustments if needed.
Why it matters: the hearing schedule affects the public’s opportunity to comment on revenue and rate proposals and the board’s calendar for approving the budget. Commissioners discussed combining the R&R hearing with the budget hearing to streamline public comment.
Action taken: a motion to move the R&R hearing from Aug. 18 to Aug. 25 was seconded and approved; commissioners recorded affirmative votes. The board also discussed coordinating the R&R and budget hearings and keeping statutory deadlines in mind.
Next steps: the board chair and clerk will finalize notices and filings consistent with the August 25 date and with any statutory publication requirements.
