Methodist Children's Home plans 'Squeeze the Day' 5K fundraiser Sept. 13; seeks volunteers and sponsors

Sarah Head, a stand‑in for event coordinator Courtney Murphy, told the Sulphur City Council that the Methodist Children's Home of Southwest Louisiana will host its first public fundraiser and awareness event, the "Squeeze the Day" 5K and one‑mile fun run, on Sept. 13.
"Our mission is to guide children and families home," Head said, describing the facility as a comprehensive residential program for children with significant emotional, behavioral and mental‑health needs. She said the home opened for residents in 2012 after a 2011 dedication and that it aims to return children to their families and communities when ready.
Head said the home's bed capacity is 28 and that the most recent census she reported was 23 children, with census fluctuating based on need and staffing. She said staffing — particularly the availability of a therapist — is the current constraint on capacity. Head asked the community to register, volunteer and sponsor the Sept. 13 event, noting the fundraiser will have a lemonade theme and will include both a 5K and a one‑mile family run.
A council member who identified themselves as working for the Calcasieu Parish School Board described the school district as a partner that provides teachers and staff to the facility.
Head said the home will circulate flyers and a QR code for registration and encouraged community members to get involved. No formal council action was taken on the presentation.
