Administrator George presented the resolution and told the board the requested rezoning would allow up to about 600 outdoor storage stalls for vehicles and equipment. He said the request already had been recommended for approval by the county’s land use and planning and zoning committees and is scheduled for the full county board on July 17. "This is a formal resolution that will trigger a three‑fourths majority vote from the county board," George said.
Trustees raised concerns that the I‑3 zoning is the county’s most intense classification and could permit truck parking, tankers and other heavy uses that may not be compatible with existing conditions near bridges and pipes along the route. One trustee noted Romeoville had already passed its objection.
Board members voted to approve the resolution on a motion by Trustee McClafferty, seconded by Trustee Stapleton; the roll call vote was unanimously in favor of sending the village’s formal objection to the county board.
The resolution text and staff letter outlining Lemont’s objections will be transmitted to Will County ahead of the July 17 hearing, according to the village’s presentation. The resolution does not itself change zoning; it registers the village’s formal opposition for the county decision-making process.
