The Lemont Village Board on a unanimous roll call approved Resolution R‑49‑25 to award a contract to EP Doyle & Sons for construction of a 1,000‑ton salt dome, the village clerk said.
Village Clerk Charlene presented the resolution and Public Works staff member Ralph recommended accepting EP Doyle & Sons’ low bid of $516,916 and installing a sealed concrete floor rather than an asphalt bottom. "I do not recommend doing that. I think we should go with the concrete, sealed concrete. It's gonna last a lot longer than the blacktop will," Ralph said.
Ralph told the board staff reviewed comparable projects and consulted an industry expert, who advised against an asphalt floor. The board then voted on a motion by Trustee Stapleton, seconded by Trustee Kitridge; the motion carried on a roll call vote with the trustees present voting yes.
The contract will add a second of three intended structures on the Archer and Derby property, according to Ralph’s presentation. The resolution as approved does not specify a construction start date or funding breakdown, which staff did not provide during the discussion.
The board moved on to other business after approving the resolution.
