Commission recommends rezoning for a small Mill at Riverstone parcel to R1

The Overland Park Planning Commission on July 14 voted 9-0 to recommend approval of a rezoning request (REZ 2025-3) for a small strip of land at the northwest corner of 180 Third Terrace and Oakmont Street, to be incorporated into the Mill at Riverstone preliminary plat.
Staff said the Mill Riverstone owner purchased the parcel to allow some lots to front onto Oakmont Street and that the rezoning from RURJ to R1 matches surrounding residential zoning. "The property was annexed in 2008 and has remained RURJ until this time," staff said. The request was recommended for approval with no stipulations.
Applicant Judd Claussen of Phelps Engineering said he had no further comments and was present for questions. The public hearing produced no speakers. Commissioner Reyes moved approval and the commission approved the rezoning 9-0. The item will go to the City Council for consideration on Aug. 4, 2025, at 7:30 p.m.
