Schumann said Area 17 (about 20 counties) has roughly 1,000 registered athletes and the organization hopes to attract more delegations from neighboring counties to regional competitions.
Commissioner Rackler moved to fund $7,500 from unclaimed funds and Commissioner Dolby seconded; the court approved the motion unanimously. Court members and at least one county staffer spoke in support of the organization and its local volunteers; the court asked that the recipient may categorize the funds (the commissioner asking clarified advertising as an easy category).
