Victoria ISD bond committee weighs maintenance-first bond, timelines for November ballot

Victoria Independent School District’s Bond Action Committee, joined by board leadership, spent the session steering toward a maintenance-focused bond package that would prioritize roofs and HVAC systems while sequencing larger construction projects over multiple bond cycles.

District staff and Bond Action Committee Chair Amy Mundy led the discussion at the working dinner session, laying out a maintenance department’s prioritized lists for hypothetical bond totals of $25 million, $50 million, $75 million and $100 million and answering participants’ questions about costs, timelines and tax impacts. “If this community and this board wanted something on the ballot in November, the board has to make that decision August 15,” a district staff presenter said during the meeting.

The nut of the discussion: participants repeatedly returned to a two-part strategy—ask for an amount the community will likely approve, show visible early wins, then return to voters in later years.
