Lubbock County gives $1,000 from unclaimed funds to Idyllu Cotton Fest

Lubbock County Commissioners Court voted unanimously to award $1,000 from unclaimed funds to the Idyllu Cotton Fest committee to support the community festival scheduled for Sept. 20, 2025.
"We usually expect at least 2,000 people, probably more that come and go throughout the day," Bridal Pierce, chair of the Cotton Fest Committee, told the court while describing parade and park activities, vendor booths, a barbecue cook‑off, a car show and an evening street dance. Pierce said the committee has used sponsorships and local businesses to fund the event and that last year the committee awarded $2,000 scholarships to a senior king and queen.
Pierce told the court the organizing entity is a 501(c)(6) rather than a 501(c)(3) and that she has a TIN; the court asked staff to ensure payment paperwork is completed before disbursement. Pierce also described using wristbands to count attendees in the past, saying organizers ordered 1,500 wristbands two years ago and ran out, and that they therefore estimate at least 2,000 attendees.
The motion to provide $1,000 from unclaimed funds carried unanimously; the court encouraged the public to attend the Sept. 20 event.
